How the Market Median Works
Every active job listing on SiteJobs with a listed rate feeds into the median calculation. Outliers are trimmed so one silly £90/hour listing does not skew the numbers. Medians are calculated by trade and by postcode area, so a groundworker in London is not compared against a groundworker in Glasgow.
The medians are estimates based on listed rates. They show what employers are advertising, which is the best public signal of what the market pays. Your own rate is yours. Nobody sees it but you.
The Hard Hat Badge
Every rate entry generates a shareable digital card with a hard hat badge:
- White hard hat: your rate is below the market median
- Yellow hard hat: your rate is within the median range
- Gold hard hat: your rate is above the market median
